William I. Elliott has lived for forty years in Yokohama, teaching literature at Kanto Gakuin University. His books include criticism and thirty translations of Japanese poetry, ancient and modern. With colleague Kawamura Kazuo he has translated fifty-four collections of Japan’s best-known living poet, Tanikawa Shuntaro. Elliott has published seven collections of his own poems, including An Evening’s Entertainment (2009).
He founded the Kanto Poetry Center and the bilingual journal Poetry Kanto.
